Just wanted to second Br Gabriel's recommendation. New Polity has been highly influential to me as well and has caused me to view and handle my finances differently. I've also been working my way through E. Michael Jones' work, Barren Metal: A History of Capitalism as the Conflict between Labor and Usury as it highlights the Catholic economic principles of little known Fr. Heinrich Pesch, SJ (a good Jesuit). I have found this book helpful in forming a Catholic perspective on money.

Amber-Thank you for sharing. My wife has done a lot of research on this as well and has shared what she's learned far and wide because she wants people she knows and loves to make informed decisions. Unfortunately, this has resulted in some animosity and ostracization from friends and family. In spite of all of this she continues to persevere and shares what she knows. This may not be the answer you're looking for, but it came up with Friar Anthony when he was in Omaha. He said he doesn't bother arguing these points with people anymore because they rarely consider the arguments in favor of the TLM. Instead he just tells them that he likes the TLM better. This way they can't argue with him since it's just his preference.

I think the death penalty was more salutary for deathbed conversions in ages past. It is still just and necessary, but I doubt there are conversions on death row like there were in the time of St. Joseph Cafasso. I think this is due mostly to the current state of the Church. Most Catholics today seem unconvinced or unaware of the necessity of the sacraments and dying in a state of sanctifying grace. Like Friar Anthony says, "Most people think God is a teddy bear." Also, any "spiritual help" given in prisons today is mostly protestant which doesn't help anyone who is about to die. At least that's how it is in Nebraska.

I like the way the book draws parallels between the major phases of St. Francis' life and his spirituality and then applies the lessons to be lived by his spiritual sons and daughters.
