On behalf of our sister here in Louisiana, Sr Bridget of the Holy Family, please pray for her mother who went home from the hospital today with the help of hospice. Please also remember in your hearts and prayers Sr Elizabeth Bridget and her family as they continue respond to God in prayer and care for her mother. May God give each of them His holy love, grace, strength, and blessings during this time. 🙏🏻📿 Sacred Heart of Jesus. Please have mercy on us. Immaculate Heart of Mary. Please pray for us. In addition to St. Michael’s Lent… “Ember Days” occur four times throughout the Church year and are a short period of penitence and fasting. The Autumn Ember Days occur in the week following the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross – this year on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday September 21, 23, and 24. On those days, it is traditional to choose some type of penitential sacrifice: abstaining from meat or alcohol; additional prayers each day like the Rosary, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, or St. Michael Chaplet; attending a Holy Hour with Eucharistic Adoration; or going to Confession. The Autumn Ember Days have long been associated with both the harvest and nearness to “Michaelmas,” the feast day of our patron St. Michael and Archangels on September 29th. Ember Days are always Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, but not Thursday. Why? Thursday is the day Our Lord instituted the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper. But Wednesday was the day He was betrayed by Judas Iscariot; Friday the day of Crucifixion; and Saturday the day he “descended into hell” to bring forth the souls of the dead for all ages. On those three days we reflect prayerfully on Jesus’ sacrifice, and make our own offerings in union with him.

Two years before the great Saint Francis of Assisi died, and when he was forty-two years old — one year after he had built the first crib in honor of Our Lord — he went off to a lonely mountain called Mount Alvernia, to prepare himself by forty days of fasting and prayer for the feast of Saint Michael, the greatest of God’s angels, whose feast day is September 29. On the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on September 14, Saint Francis received in his hands, feet and side the Sacred Wounds from Our Lord’s own body. Never was a saint more beautifully loved by Jesus than Saint Francis of Assisi. The wounds Jesus gave him stayed in his hands, feet and side, and continually bled for two more years, until he died in 1226. The day on which Saint Francis received the Five Wounds of Our Lord was September 14, but so that this beautiful event might have a feast day for itself, the Stigmata of Saint Francis are commemorated on September 17. The simple liturgy of this holy saint’s life might be put this way: the crib in 1223, and the Cross in 1224.

+JMJ I just received word that one of my friends from grammar and high school, Kim Bellow, is probably going to pass any day now due to health complications. She and three of her five sisters all grew up with me down the street and we participated in different sports together at St. Angela Merici grammar school and Sacred Heart of Jesus high school. We all still keep in touch from time to time. Lately it’s to pay our respects at our family funerals. I’m so sorry to hear that her condition is changing. Knowing Kim she is offering it all up to God. I trust that God is going to supply the graces that she needs at this time. Please remember her and her family in your prayers. Thank you🙏🏻

+JMJ I recently mentioned to a good person who is serving God that I wanted to be obedient to God about something. It’s so true that God knows even the number of hairs on our head! He knows every nanosecond of our lives…our thoughts, our hearts disposition towards Him and towards our neighbor. Everything! I came upon this when I wasn’t looking for it…but it’s God’s way of reminding me that His gaze is always upon us even when we may not realize it! Holy Perfection! There are times that snippets of Friar Anthony’s meditations come to mind and one is…”There are no Saints here!” While Holy Perfection is a big spiritual goal… We can still strive to become Saints one day at a time. I pray according to God’s Will that we each can attain the Christian Perfection that God created us to attain during our life! I know that I have a lot of work to do! https://catholicgentleman.com/2015/08/fire-of-love-lessons-from-st-maximilian-kolbe/
